Store update imminent

I know I haven’t any school work. So in theory, I should be able to blog more, right?

Yeah.. I’ve been busy with dyeing yarn and sewing for the store! Here are some sneak peeks at the bags:

They are expandabags. :D

Have you ever started a project (knitting or crochet) for… say a sweater or a blanket? It starts out small with only one ball of yarn… then it grows and grows and grows and soon you won’t have space in the project bag. Most times I use a huge ziplock bag to contain the project when it grows out of my bag but with an Expandabag, you can use the same bag for the entire project!

Dimensions are 36cm across, 22cm tall at the smallest size and 38cm at the biggest size. The base is 15cm by 22cm. I’ve shoved ten 100g worsted weight yarn cakes in there without a problem.

They are made of sturdy cotton denim fabric and high quality 100% cotton contrasting fabric. Snaps are durable and tested for each bag.

They each come with an Inoriz.com label:

I have not taken many photos of the yarns but here’s a small peek:

There are many other colours that would be included in this update.

The store, http://yarnandkisses.com, will be updated this coming Sunday (19 Dec 2010) at around mid-day. I had posted on Facebook that I will update before I receive my exam results. Exam results are released on 20 Dec. :) So I’m working overtime to keep that promise!

I’m very anxious about the results and especially for the university entrance results. But, hey! Today (17 Dec) is my wedding anniversary and I get to go out on a date with my husband alone (kids with our best friend) for the first time in more than 3 years! And the day after is my birthday… which I plan not to celebrate because….. it’s just depressing to grow older and older. :(

Okay! See ya!

To market to market to buy a fat pig….

…..except that we don’t eat pork.

Haha.

Umn…where was I? Oh yes.. Markets!

I was at handmadehobart with a bootload of yarn today and thoroughly enjoyed myself!

First of all, some pictures (from left of the table to the right):(smooooshy Malabrigo!)

(Pricelists and free knitting patterns. The Honeycomb scarf pattern was snaffled up in a short time!)

(My smooshy handdyed yarns.)

(Smooshy smooshy!)

I met many lovely people (stall holders and customers). Among them (in no order of preference), Jess from Jeka B Handmade, Meika from Wee Threads, Kathy from abeautifulramble and Penni, our lovely organiser.

My very interesting, talented and funny neighbours were Holly from Hiiragi HQ, Emily from Emily Snadden Design, and 2 lovely ladies from Jasmine Rose Boutique. (They had a wee little baby in their arms… my uterus was clucking away at all the tiny babies at the market!)

Holly sat behind us and we kept jabbing at each other as the space was rather tiny (and I’m not exactly the most adroit person around). If Nad hadn’t brought the kids outside to play for most of the time there, there would be 10 elbows and knees in a very small space. :D

She’s such a talented young woman – her handmade dolls are soooo cute! (Although they are deadly and certainly do not want you to think of them as ‘cute’). I love her drawings and we share the love for Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Lenore. Not many people get these indie comics! (The only other person I know is Sasha!)

I got quite a bit of knitting done on the handspun shawl (only about 50 more rows to go before cast off!!!!! —– except that there will be about 1000 stitches in a row by the time I get to the end… -___- ;  )

I’m crossing fingers that I would be able to whip up more handmade stuff to sell at markets… maybe in July? I have quite a few projects planned.. I just need to get organised, get childcare (so that I can sew in peace!), quit school… etc.

Nah, just kidding… I won’t quit school… although it’s been a pain to me recently. I got about 3 assignments to complete in 2 nights. Assignments that take about 20 hours each to complete.

I can’t fit 3 x 20 = 60 hours into 48 hours (that is, if I don’t eat, sleep, pee). Go figure.

Okay….. on to happier stuff….

Sunshine was really really really well behaved this whole week, getting on with toilet training very well (she loves her new toilet bowl insert and would rather use it than the potty), she behaved VERY well in Church yesterday, sitting on the chair beside me throughout the entire service without behaving like she had ants in her pants.

So I bought her this at the market today:

Oooh! What’s in there?

Blocks! (Bought from Silver Nutmeg & a Golden Pear Designs)

{Does anyone know where I can get these kind of blocks in a set? I love wooden toys!}

Sunshine LOOOVEES her blocks. She stacks them up in different configurations everytime and says, “Look, mummy! SKY SCRAPER!”

Since she loves blocks, I got more to add to her collection. :)

I have to go off now. It’s dinner time!

I wish I had more time with my hobbies. Knitting, spinning, sewing, making books…. Sigh.

Kids take up SOOOOOOOO much of your time! When will they be more independent, I wonder?

Introducing my favourite hand dyed yarn colours

Just posting a bigger picture of these 4 colourways that I love.

Sasha’s Green:

A blend of bright green, turquoise and teal. I usually don’t dig greens but this one is just gorgeous! Don’t ya think? Named after a very good friend of mine, Sasha! We used to live just 5 minutes from each other and she was Sunshine’s one and only nanny (thus far). Now we live so far away from each other! :( Would have to just content with the emails and reading her blog.

This green will knit up to very lovely socks and even shawls / scarves.

Glacier:

Inspired by pictures of glaciers. I LOVE BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This would knit up to very nice socks, I think.

Me Time:

I feel that this colourway needs more exposure and perhaps, an explanation!

It’s named “Me time” because this is the colour I see when I look out of the window at night, when the kids and the hubby are asleep. My ‘me-time’.

I love this colourway so much I think I’ll knit a shawl with it someday.

It has mostly black, teal and a little turquoise thrown in. I should have taken a picture of the yarn before it was reskeined.

But seriously, this is a beautiful colourway for those who prefer darker shades.

Aurora Borealis:

This is the colourway that took me the longest to plan and dye up.

If you follow this link to Paulo Coelho’s blog, you’ll see the picture I based this colourway on.

Colours go from very dark blue (navy), to lighter blue and then the bright green and purples. I think this colourway would make a nice shawl or scarf. Maybe socks too!

Click on this link to see these yarns and other colourways in store! Thank you!

Store is Open!!

Finally…… at long last!

All the nights (or rather, mornings) of dyeing and making soap.

These are the new colourways I have in store. The colours are very intense and saturated.

And of course, soap!

Handmade soap is different from commercially manufactured ones. They will not dry your skin and are made of 100% natural ingredients. Only the highest grade of essential oil and/or fragrance oil is used in my soap bars. Also, I only use approved colour pigments to colour soap.

On top of that, I use vegetable oils (Olive, Coconut, certified sustainable Palm, Rice Bran) exclusively. No animal fats are used!

I hope to whip up more soap once these are sold. Please help me out by buying some!

Shipping is automatically calculated for overseas customers now too! So you don’t have to email me for shipping charges and packaging costs etc. Any excess shipping charges will be refunded to you as well.

There is a 10% store wide sale going on now so go grab something before they’re all gone!

Thank you very much!
