After pondering for 2 days on whether to wait for my mom’s instructions or to just go ahead and try to make a simple pinafore dress for Sunshine, I decided to go ahead with it.
Tonnes of rough sketches and brain juice later, I came up with this:

I sewed two pieces of fabric together as the blue floral cloth is really thin. I also left the top part of the side seams open to save us from struggling to get her arms into the armhole.

Please pardon her sleepy face. She was really sleepy.

It really is a very very simple dress. I’m thinking about whether to add embellishments or not but decided against it lest I spoil the whole project.
Here’s a close up on the buttons. (My first time ever sewing buttonholes and Thank God it was a success.)

This is also the first dress Sunshine has ever owned. I will design and sew more for her.
Criticism and comments most welcome!

I love the colours in the fabric and the cute buttons. Good job after not sewing for so long! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see more sewn stuff from you!
P.S. Sorry I kept missing your online messages. It wasn’t deliberate

Absolutely beautiful! Looks like it can be worn inside out too, I mean the orange piece on the outer side? Anyway, KUDOS on a job well done.
I started sewing only after 41 yrs of age. It’s never too late to pick up something we weren’t interested in back then, right.

Salihan: I blame it on the timing. We are 2 hours apart! Hahaha
San: I meant for it to be reversible but I stitched the front and back pcs together so there is a narrow strip of fabric on the orange side (if you know what I mean). So it won’t be reversible, sadly.
Someone: You’ll get to see her soon!
Wow, all those that have commented have names starting with ‘S’. Hahaha.

Hi Inori,
If I may suggest, sew the blue seam separately, sew the orange seam separately. Now both seams are facing each other all hidden in. At the bottom, for the hem, fold the blue cloth in, fold the orange cloth in and sew on the right side of the cloth. Get what I mean?
I sewed some reversible shopping bags and used this method.
