The One About The Garter Stitch Cardigan

There, I’ve done it.

Finished.

Finally.

Bored out of my wits with it.

It doesn’t look bad in the picture but it really is very messy and ugly. You may think that I’m just saying this to get you to say “Ohhh.. it’s nice, it’s not too bad” etc. I’m NOT. I will show it to you in real life if I could. Then you will realise how messy it actually is.

Name of project: Garter Stitch Cardigan

Yarn: Heirloom 8 ply cotton White X 1, Purple X 1 and Pink X 1

Needles: Inox Circulars 5mm, Aerosteel 4mm

Cast on date: On or around 20 Oct ’07

Cast off date: 16 Nov ’07

Learned: Changing colors, carrying colors up the sides, picking up stitches for edging.

Mistakes: NOT DOING A GAUGE SWATCH SO THIS CARDIGAN IS WAY TOO SMALL. Increasing for the sleeves every 3 rows instead of 4 rows because I thought you have to include the 1st row in every increase. Carrying up the colors up the side too tightly, so it actually puckers if not for the edging.

Basically, I do not like this cardigan. Sigh. It was meant for my friend’s baby. But I will just keep it so that I can remind myself never to make such mistakes ever again. I will never make anything that calls for a garter stitch all through either. SOOOOOOOO BORING that I wasn’t motivated to knit it. I had to drag my feet through this project- that’s why I took so long to finish it. Knit knit knit knit knit.. I need more Yarnovers and SSk and PSSO and KFNB and etc etc etc………..

Here is a pic of Sunshine wearing it before I sewed on the buttons.

I will never make a jacket/ jumper/ cardigan without making a gauge swatch again. (OR, I will just make one size bigger if it’s meant for kids. Since they will have to grow bigger anyway. HAHAHAHAHA. I’M SOOOO LAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    Congratulations on finishing it!
Sometimes, it’s about finishing the race, isn’t it.

Love the colours of the yarn, looks lovely on Sunshine

    Thanks San.
Yes I’m pretty much a person who wants to finish whatever I started. But laziness often gets in the way and it takes longer to complete. Haha.
