The One About The Seventh Lunar Month

It’s that time of the year again.

The chinese (Taoists, Buddhists?) ‘celebrate’ the seventh month of the Lunar calendar as the Festival of Hungry Ghosts.

They believe in this month, the gates of hell open and souls swarm out to roam the earth and feast on offerings by humans.

Joss-sticks, paper ingots, incence etc are usually burnt and food offerings ranging from rice to meat to fruits are laid out ON THE SIDEWALKS for these souls to feast on.

There are also several beliefs and superstitions to ‘abide’ to during this period, including;

- not going home/out after sun-down

- not bringing umbrellas out or else souls will be trapped in the umbrella

- not responding to your name should you hear someone calling out to you, esp late at night

- not going overseas during this period

- not doing water sports like swimming or wakeboarding

and so on…………

I do not disbelieve in “them”. I have personally encountered “them” before. (If I’m not too tired, I may write more about this in this same post later.)
While I do not mind “them” being around, I do not provoke them nor do any evil or harmful things to others. So they should also leave me alone, please. :)

And oh, to my human friends, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, make your offerings AS TIDY AS YOU CAN. Already the smoke irritates my eyes and nose… Please do not char the grass or burn the sidewalks. Use the bins provided.

I do not hate or despise NOR am disrespectful to any religion. But PLEASE keep the environment clean. Not everyone is as tolerant to ashes/dust/smoke as others are. And while I pick up my dogs’ poop, please do not spoil the nice walkways and grass that we (inclusive of you and me, yes?) taxpayers pay to upkeep.

Luckily Nad isn’t in Singapore. He would have bad asthma attacks during this time of the year. What’s worse is, there are two “Seventh Months” this year (please do not ask me why).

Ok… I’m tired. Hahaha… Hmmm.. Would you want to read about my encounters with “them”?

Ps: I watched The Lake House today. I think it’s better than Il Mare (the original Korean version). Some parts can be a lil’ confusing..

Am waiting for Jan to watch Pirates of the Carribean 2 with me. And another movie which I can’t quite remember now………

And ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh IN AUGUST? THERE WILL BE TWO MOVIES WITH JENNIFER ANISTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Break Up and Friends With Money!!!!!!! I’m the happiest in August! Coz it’s Jan’s birthday too!!!!!!!!! And I’m flying off for a short break in August too! And I’m going for a karaoke session in August too! And Jan and I are planning to go wakeboarding too!

I’m a happy girl already!

And oh, I remember now… The other movie I wanna watch is Helen the Baby Fox. It’s a Japanese movie. Anybody wanna watch with me? :D
