Today, I was happily pottering around at work when I saw my colleague coming in with something pinkish in her hands.
*GASP*Â
RAT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently, a little boy found the baby sizzling like teppanyaki near a wall of the coffeehouse near my workplace.
My boss told me to get Evaporated Milk.
While we were syringe feeding the lil’ fella (he’s a boy), the boy (the human one) ran in and shouted that there were more.
So my colleague and I rushed to the crime scene where the boy was and true enough, there was ANOTHER rat baby against the wall!
We picked that one up and *PLOP* came another! It was like a Rat Baby Dispensing Machine! We figured that the wall was hollow and Rat Mommy must have built her not-so-secure nest behind that wall.
Sigh. In total, we have FOUR Rat Babies. They are about only a day old.
They squirm and screech in their high pitched voices. They have to be fed every two hours.
I found out that rats (as well as other rodents, cats and dogs) would lick their babies to stimulate their pooping and peeing. As foster moms, we have to do that to the foursome too.
‘Cept that we don’t lick their genitals. We have to use wet cotton buds to rub their tummies and bummies.
They are with me for the night. I don’t think they’d survive though. Very slim chances of them surviving. Will try anyhow.
There goes my beauty sleep.
Will take more pictures later. They’re not exactly photogenic though.

ooo…. rat babies… interesting. What happened to the mama rat?? I have very few hopes that they will survive too. And even if they do, who would wan them??!! Cham…. dilemna….

i know how you feel. must be stressful. went through something like that 3yrs ago with my first cat. haha. but i somehow miss doing stuff like that.

Hey! Some people may squirm when they realise the baby rodents are rats, but it’s really commendable that you are taking such great care of them! I applaud the little boy too

er.. why not just put them back? what if the mommy discovers that her babies are gone!? she’ll be sad..

sheila: Yeah, their night (albeit unsuccessful) feeding left me with dark eyerings.
Saus: Hehe, look at the long tail. They are rats! Those that you see running about in the streets :-X
Hazel: Err… commendable? I’m at a loss also… Coz they are rejecting the milk.
kakashi: Coz I cannot reach behind the wall panel. There is no way we can reach the nest unless we hack the wall down… which err.. I think we’d be sued….
I can’t leave them on the floor either coz it’s under direct sunlight and the babies were literally baking. Either way is a risk.

you might want to take them to the vet to give them jabs though…
never know what bugs they might be carrying….

ain’t it disgusting? they are the same yucky things roaming the street drains at night. rummaging through rubbish and mingling with cockroaches and flies and maggots. eeks.

Cute baby rats. Animals are just sowonderful. glad you are an animal lover too.
You can see my 3 pet dogs in my blog. My Chow chow is loved by so many. He is really cute. all my doggies have passed away, and I have sweet memories of them.
